Addressing Our Community’s Health Concerns

We've been keeping a close eye on the spread of the infectious COVID-19. With cases reported now in DC, Maryland and Virginia, we need everyone in the BOOMBOX fam to work together. We’ll be updating this blog regularly to share the latest information on how we’re keeping our community healthy.

We exist to promote health and community, so we are very serious about following all expert guidance to stop the spread of COVID-19. We'll be voluntarily closing our studio until further notice, effective Monday, March 16. It's tough to be without the community we all love so much in the studio, but it's important that we fight this virus together, too. We know we'll be back fighting together in no time, stronger and healthier than we were before!

Thank you for helping us take care of our fam and studio the past few weeks as we've monitored the virus' rapid development. As we do our part to flatten the curve, please note memberships will be frozen immediately and class packs will be extended through May 30. We're still happy and healthy, and we're wishing the same for you during this downtime.

Be sure to keep up with us on Instagram for at-home moves you can do to stay fit and fight-ready 🥊. (Turn on notifications from @boombox_boxing so you won't miss any!)

Please review these reminders and general information regarding health and safety in the studios.

  • We're maintaining our diligent hygiene standards. We've always kept it a  about cleaning and sanitizing our studio for you, and that won't change. This includes cleaning the floors and disinfecting the heavy bags between classes; disinfecting and drying our rental gloves after each use; immediately removing and washing used towels; and cleaning and disinfecting all communal surfaces (e.g., door handles and countertops).

  • If you've taken a class recently, let us know if you test positive for COVID-19 . We'll take the proper steps to notify your BOOMBOX classmates for their safety as well.

  • Please stay home if you're feeling sick , especially with any of the virus' symptoms, like a fever, cough or shortness of breath. The same goes for flu-like symptoms, too. If you need to freeze your account or cancel a booking for this reason, please contact us at info@boombox-boxing.com.

  • Wash your gear (hand wraps, looking at you) and spray down your boxing gloves after each use 🥊. We have antibacterial glove cleaner in-studio for you.

  • Wash your hands before a BOOMBOX class . We also have hand sanitizer at the front desk you can use. Be sure to repeat immediately after class, too.

We all know the drill: At least 20 seconds of hand washing to really be clean and disinfected. If you're sick of doing the ole "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi" at the faucet, we have a couple sick bars that are just about 20 seconds you can recite:

  • What More Can I Say, Jay-z: Not the whole song — just start at "I'm not a biter, I'm a writer for myself and others."  By the time you get to the hook you can turn off the tap.

  • Life Is Good, Future + Drake: This hook is almost exactly 20 seconds .

  • Truth Hurts, Lizzo: Bom bom bi dom bi dum dum, bay ! Hum the chorus of this song at the sink and 20 seconds will pass in a snap.

In the meantime, we'll continue to monitor the CDC and World Health Organization for updates. We're here if you have questions or concerns about how to help keep the BOOMBOX community healthy.
